Trg Giardin – open-air fishing museum

Municipality of Karlobag has successfully implemented the project "Trg Giardin - open-air fishing museum", submitted on May 15, 2020 to the 1st FLAG competition for Measure 2.A.1. "Development of tourist content related to the tradition of the fishing region".

The open-air fishing museum forms a unique whole that consists of the physical part of the space – Giardin square, emphasizing the rich fishing and maritime heritage of Karlobag. Through digital content and the website, visitors can learn about local fishermen, fishing methods, fish specialties and other important information. The facades of the buildings are painted in different colors, while the stylized gajeta additionally emphasizes the connection with fishing. By holding the "Baško fishing through time" event, the project encourages education and promotion of fishing and maritime traditions. Financed with funds from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund through the FLAG competition of LAGUR Tramuntana, this project achieves the goals of preserving fishing heritage and promoting tourism. Successfully implemented, it leaves a lasting mark on the development of the local community.
